An Unforgettable Experience!

by our director Sally Worth

Capacity audiences had the absolute pleasure of attending the Landulph Festival parish pantomime of Peter Pan, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment the curtain rose, they were blown away by the impressive handmade sets, which were nothing short of magical. The attention to detail, from the iconic pirate ship to the whimsical Neverland forest, truly transported the audience into Peter Pan’s world. It was clear throughout how much effort the entire team had put into creating such a stunning visual experience.

The special effects were equally remarkable. There were some ingenious moments, especially during the digital flying scene and the clever use of lighting and sound effects made the whole experience feel even more immersive and exciting. The live band played an integral part in supporting the cast and involving the audience in some interactive and lively singing.

The characters were a joy to watch! The daring (Jason Small) Peter Pan and his jealous companion Tinker Bell (Amanda Marks) took the audience on their magical journey with compelling confidence. The villainous Captain Hook, played by the charismatic James Jermain, was a larger-than-life villain, leading his band of feckless pirates who all engaged the audience with their slapstick antics and witty banter. Wendy (Nicola Small), with her two young brothers, played by Mylee Loué and Fleur Pearson, was the perfect mother for the Lost Boys, who were as mischievous and endearing as ever. The Lost Boys’ humorous schoolboy jokes and cheeky personalities had the whole audience laughing from start to finish.

The Native American Indian tribal scene was a lively addition, with the performers' energetic rain dance moves and playful humour. The relationships between the Chief (Dave Wheatley) and his nagging wife (Sue Hassan) as they tried in vain to control their man-mad daughters, hilariously portrayed by Linda Hobley and Sandra Booth, evoked uncontrollable laughter all round! By contrast, Tiger Lily’s (Gwennie Morris) beautiful singing was a particular highlight. The mermaids added an enchanting touch with their sparkling costumes and fun interactions. The Dame (David Ford) was, of course, a comedic delight, with his fabulous wig and make-up and local jokes delivered with impeccable timing that had everyone in stitches. And the crocodile, with its surprise appearance, was an extra layer of hilarity!

The combination of outstanding performances, live music, impressive sets, and special effects made this pantomime truly memorable, capturing why the community of Landulph is so very colourful and special. It was a family-friendly, fun-filled evening that left everyone smiling and laughing long after the final curtain call.
