It’s not just Cornwall! A look at the often overlooked Tamar Valley Mining District
While the mining landscapes around Redruth and Camborne dominate the popular history of Cornish mining, the Tamar Valley on the Devon-Cornwall border played a vital role in the region's industrial past. Remarkably, the valley was home to Devon Great Consols, which during the 19th century became the most productive copper mine in the world.
The Cornwall Mining Consultancy explores the history of Tamar Valley Mining, shifting the spotlight eastward to examine its geology, notable engineering projects, and vast output of copper, silver-lead, and arsenic. We will look at how the district developed, the infrastructure projects that enabled it, and the legacy it has left behind – for better and for worse!
Doors and bar open at 6:30pm, event starts at 7:30pm.
